
The official opening ceremony to commemorate Defence Forces Day was held this morning at the Military Training and Support Centre, Ile Perseverance.
Present at the event was the President and Commander in Chief of the Seychelles Defence Forces Dr. Patrick Herminie, the Chief of Defence Forces Major General Michael Rosette, the Deputy Chief of Defence Forces Brigadier General Jean Attala, the Chief of Staff Colonel Michael Hollanda, members of the Defence Force Council, Director General National Intelligence Services Mr. Benediste Hoareau, Unit Commanders and service personnel from various military units and civil departments that collaborate with the Seychelles Defence Forces.
The ceremony featured the presentation of long-service awards to military personnel and civilian staff celebrating 25 years of service and above. Certificates were also awarded to personnel who successfully completed the Commandos Training Course as well as Seychelles Coast Guard personnel who completed their Basic First Aid Training.
In his address, the Chief of Defence Forces Major General Rosette emphasized this year’s Defence Forces Day theme “Let’s Strive for Excellence in Unity and Peace.” He stated that the theme perfectly reflects the principles upheld by the Defence Forces. He called on all military personnel to renew their dedication to these values, to serve with honour and integrity, to support one another and to stand firm in their duty to protect the nation.
In his closing remarks, the Commander-in-Chief urged all service personnel to continue protecting and defending Seychelles’ sovereignty and to persist in the fight against illegal activities.
The ceremony also featured a poem dedicated to all soldiers, performed by Ras Pyek.
